The Journey of Self Love

Self Love is a term we hear often in spiritual circles. For some it becomes a goal to achieve along the journey while to others it is a place of ego to avoid. In dictionaries there are numerous definitions including:
Listen to First Light on Self Love
- A moral flaw, selfishness
- Belief that you are valuable and worthy
- Instinct or tendency to seek one's own well-being or further one's own interest
- Love of self
- Regard for one's own well-being and happiness
- Exceptional interest in and admiration of self
- Feelings of excessive pride
As you read these dictionary definitions it is clear that self love is not always seen as a good thing! These distortions of the original code and meaning of self love have been created to allow the belief that self love is negative and a flaw. The distortions of self love in much of society keeps you out of self love. When you are not in self love it is much more difficult to reach the deeper recesses of Self/Soul. It also makes you much easier to control and manipulate.
As part of the current Great Awakening self love is coming forth OR the awareness of lack of self love is coming forth... This awareness of our own lack of self love allows us to see some of the distortions and begin to make the journey home to our heart and our authentic Self.
Self love comes in layers. Each of us has parts of our Self that we like and maybe even love, and also parts we ignore, hide, hate, are ashamed of or simply dislike. Self love is a sliding scale with self hatred on one end and self love on the other. Many are simply trying to slide along the scale from self hatred to a place of neutrality. Others are trying to slide further along the scale to self like and eventually more self love.
Self Love is the 12th code of the 33 Codes of Origin. It is one of the most important of all the codes, and currently the one of the most challenging to embody.
The original code of Self Love is defined as "the knowingness and recognition of who you are, on ALL levels".
This means you know and honour and embrace fully who you are, without reservation. Lack of self love is one of the deepest wounds of humanity.
In a May 2020 One Day Workshop all the Guides focused on Self Love in various ways. The collective called First Light had this to say about Self Love: (listen or read below)
"We would say the lack of self love is truly one of the biggest wounds held individually and as a collective consciousness. And there are many degrees of this individually. Some of you are working to release self hatred, and others are working to improve your own self love. Some of you are working to move into self love and some of you have moments of self love.
Self Love is truly the greatest gift that you give to yourself.
As you move into more self love it changes everything. It doesn't mean you still won't have bad days or challenges, but it lets you see the world and see yourself through a different perspective.
Learn more about the Self Love Package
When you love yourself you are not taking things personally in the same way, you honour the journey of others. You are really more in the observation mode. And as we said a long time ago, with Self Love there really is no doing... it is so encompassing, so all encompassing that it just is.
Self Love begins with remembering and loving parts of the Self until eventually you move into loving all parts of the Self. Currently many of you and with humanity you might love one or two pieces of Self, and disregard or even hate other pieces of Self. But self love means you have learned (or remembered) to love all the parts of yourself. And in doing so you've released the shame and guilt... because how can you love yourself if you still feel guilty about things that happened in your past or are currently happening? How can you feel Self Love if you are holding on to the vibrations of shame?" We Are First Light.
Remember Self Love and loving the self are different. Loving the self is an action, it is something you do for yourself. Acts of loving the self are great! Some of them may include things like meditation, bubble bathes, walks in nature, going to bed early, eating healthy and so much more. They are actions you do to honour yourself, your body, your mind and your spirit.
What do you love about yourself? What do you want to ignore about yourself? To move into more Self Love you need to embrace all aspects of you. You need to release the shame of past experiences, and the beliefs that you are not good enough. But, step by step from my own experience, we can all move into Self Love (I am good enough!!!) and this is truly the game changer!
No matter where you are on the journey of your own Self Love, I wish you grace, ease, clarity and a good sense of humour!
